1997: Spin-off from the TU Darmstadt
The connection of the current company Dr. Binde Ingenieure GmbH with Prof. Anderl from TUD is based on deep roots that go back to my (Peter Binde) student days.
Back in 1996, when I decided to found a company, I was looking for advisors, partners or advocates for my ideas.
In his lecture on product data technology I got to know Prof. Anderl, who, contrary to many other advisors, signaled that he definitely thinks something of student start-ups. So I approached him, met with great interest and in the following time we developed the basic building blocks for this company, which started in 1997 when I finished my studies.
Later Prof. Anderl became my doctoral supervisor and we are currently and in the future working on using research results from the university in industrial practice.
2001: Formation of a Group of Companies
During my search for partners and supporters in 1996, I met Dr. Jens Wallner, who with his company had long been known for Unigraphics services. We were united by the professional and entrepreneurial spirit, so we planned to set up this new joint specialist company.
In 2001 we positioned ourselves as the "Dr. Wallner Group", a Germany-wide association of four GmbHs for the provision of high-quality complete services for UGS-PLM products. With my Wiesbaden location, I took over the product simulation (CAE) department. In addition, I started working on the subject of knowledge-based construction at that time, which is reflected in my dissertation, which I completed at the end of 2004.
Unfortunately, Jens Wallner died much too early in a car accident in 2003, which forced me to take over his duties in the company.
2005: Realignment as Dr. Binde Ingenieure GmbH
In addition to the new name, the reorientation of the company is characterized by the following points:
- Official role as a certified UGS implementation partner.
- Commissioned to lead the development of the UGS training concepts for the product simulation (CAE) specialist areas.
- The "knowledge-based construction" or KBE was added to the range of services as a strategic subject area.
- Prof. Anderl (TUD) takes on the role of the scientific advisory board.
2010: Electromagnetic Simulation
Around this time the product NX MAGNETICS was launched and intensively developed from now on. Driven by customer requirements for electromagnetic simulation with the NX system, technology partnerships and contracts were drawn up with the University of Liège and Siemens PLM Cincinnati.
Together with Patrick Dular and Christophe Geuzaine from the university, basic physical and numerical libraries were created, optimized and many practical tasks discussed. With Siemens PLM an opening of the API for solver integration was realized, which today exists under the name Solver-Toolkit. In this way, electromagnetic tasks could be solved directly in NX (later Simcenter 3D) from then on.
Numerous applications followed: electric motors, transformers, antennas, switchgear, sensors, etc. Our team was enriched by electrical engineers and physicists. The business area of license sales and maintenance for NX MAGNETICS became more and more important, because our customers are very interested in performing these simulations themselves.
Today, in 2020, services and licenses are roughly the same. With this software development, the technological basis of our company has increased enormously, which is very gratifying.
